Jack Kelly/Francis Sullivan
Played by: Christian Bale
Info: Jack Kelly is the leader of the Manhattan newsies. His birth name, Francis Sullivan, he changed to stay undercover after breaking out of jail. Jack is a born leader and lead his newsies in a strike that changed history. Jack is a very stubborn person and a smart-mouth. He's isn't the smartest person, but he is a big dreamer and hope that someday he'll be able to go to Santa Fe. That's where he gets the nickname "Cowboy."
History: Most of the characters in Newsies were real people, however, Jack Kelly was never a real person.

David Jacobs
Played by: David Moscow
Info: "The walking mouth," as most refer to Davey as, is the new kid in the newsie world. He is very smart, and gives Jack most of his ideas. At first, Dave is uptight, but once him and Jack become good friends, he loosens up a little. He was the technically the mastermind behind the strike, Jack just took all the credit.
History: Just like Jack Kelly, David Jacobs was not a real person either. Isn't it funny how the two main characters weren't actually real?

Les Jacobs
Played by: Luke Edwards
Info: Les Jacobs is obviously David Jacobs little brother. He is helping his brother sell papers to make money for their family (The Jacobs are the only newsies with a family.) Les is near ten and super cute, so he can easily sell papers. That's why Jack wanted to team up with him. From the start, Les looks up to Jack and becomes a little shadow to him.

Spot Conlon
Played by: Gabriel Damon
Info: Spot Conlon is the leader of the Brooklyn newsies. Spot joins the Manhattan newsies strike alongside Jack. With his pimp cane and sling-shot, he is one of the most intimidating newsies in New York (even though he's pretty small). I really don't know what he did to get people to respect him and fear him so much, he doesn't look that intimidating. He's your typical tough bad boy type, but with a golden heart, and goodness gracious is he hot!
History: Spot Conlon was the actual leader of Brooklyn. He apparently got his nickname because he has freckles. It is also said he had perfect aim with his sling-shot and was known for his pink suspenders (they were changed to red in the movie to look more manly I guess).

Racetrack Higgins
Played by: Max Casella
Info: Racetrack Higgins or Race, is an adorable wise-cracking and horse-loving newsie. Race is always cracking a joke about something and constantly blowing his money on something. He spends his day at the Sheepshead racetracks selling papers and betting on races. He's different compared to the other newsies, and is just so darn cute!
History: Racetrack Higgins was a real person and was basically like his character in the movie. Except he lived with his grandparents instead of at the lodging house.

Played by: Aaron Lohr
Info: Mush Meyers is "the hot one" of the bunch, I mean just look at him. He's always happy, and just looks so cute and innocent all the time. He's a big flirt and an amazing gymnast, always doing flips everywhere. How could you not love him?
History: Mush was real too. He was a trouble maker, but when it came to girls he was '"mushy". That's how he got his name.

Kid Blink
Played by: Trey Parker
Info: Kid Blink is another one of the those happy newsies with a smile constantly on his face. He wears an eyepatch on his left eye, which is cool. Some say it's for pity, others say he really only has one eye, but who knows?
History: Kid Blink was the strike leader in real life, much like Jack Kelly in the movie. He really did have an eyepatch, but it's unknown if there was really something wrong with his eye.

Crutchy
Played by: Marty Belafsky
Info: Crutchy has a crutch (surprise, surprise) that's where he got his nickname. He is a real cripple, but he doesn't let that stop him, he tries to be just like the other boys. He's probably the sweetest person you'll ever meet.
History: Recently, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, who used to play Crutchy on Broadway, confirmed that Crutchy was a real person and his full name is Crutchy Morris.

Boots
Played by: Arvie Lowe Jr.
Info: Boots is a cool kid. He's the smallest newsie, but he's probably the bravest. He's not afraid of Brooklyn at all, he said he "spent a month there one night," whatever that means. I'm guessing he really likes shoes too.
History: Boots was a shoe shiner before he became a newsie, which is where he got his name in real life.

Skittery
Played by: Michael (Gorgeous) Goorjian
Info: "Glum and dumb," poor Skittery is always in a bad mood for some reason. He never thinks before he says anything (which isn't very often anyway) and it always gets him into an argument with the other boys. He lives a hard life.
History: It's rumored that Skittery was real, and had committed suicide shortly after the strike.

Specs
Played by: Mark David
Info: Don Knot-I mean Specs, wears glasses, which I guess is why they call him Specs. He wears a bowler hat that makes him stand out from everyone. Most of the times he actually speaks is when he's hollering out a headline with his big mouth.

Dutchy
Played by: Ivan Dudynsky
Info: Dutchy may look like a nerd with his glasses, but don't be fooled. He needs assistance to spell the word "strike." He's probably Dutch or something, why else would they name him Dutchy?

Snitch
Played by: Dee Caspary
Info: Well based on his thumb-sucking and his name, I'm guessing Snitch is like a two-year-old who tells on everybody.

Itey
Played by: Dominic Maldonado
Info: What "Itey" means beats me, but I know he shares a bed with Snitch (odd) and sleeps with feet in his face. He appears in the background a lot looking like he's paying attention to the conversation going on at the moment.

Snoddy
Played by: Robert Feeney
Info: Life lession #1: become a newsie before all the good names are taken. How do you think he ended up with the name Snoddy? But he's pretty isn't he? He looks like Squidward after that time when he hit his face on the door.
